Creating a more peaceful & just world through song.

One of the oldest social justice women’s choirs in the United States, MUSE was founded in 1984 by Catherine Roma, a founding conductor and organizer of the US women's choral movement.

MUSE is an inclusive and feminist choral community advocating for peace and social justice.

Sisters, You Keep Me Fighting

We aim to inspire change for a more peaceful and just world through song.

“Sisters, You Keep Me Fighting” speaks to the affirming energies of the U.S. women’s movements and lends itself to building a bridge between struggling people all over the world.

Our Values and Beliefs

Our foundation is built on feminism.

We advocate for the rights of all people on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality. We commission and seek out music composed by women and pieces written to enhance the sound of women’s voices. We educate and empower ourselves and our audiences by celebrating women’s strengths and elevating our struggles.

Since its inception in 1984, MUSE has performed in colleges, schools, churches, prisons, temples, hospices, street events, conferences, and workshops promoting peace, equality, and justice. We seek out opportunities to sing for our wonderfully diverse local community and have traveled and performed across the US, Canada, Europe, and Latin America.

From the beginning, MUSE chose repertoire to reflect the lives of women and commissioned choral works by women composers and crafted choral arrangements from contemporary women's movement singer-songwriters, consciously including voices of marginalized communities.
